NPA denies report on toxic waste

THE Managing Director Nigerian Ports Authority Mallam Habib Abdullahi has allayed fears that a vessel code named MV Marivia was loaded with two containers of Toxic waste.

He said that when officials of the Authority alongside the Nigerian Customs Service opened the two containers it was discovered that it contained used electronic including: Fridges, television sets, microwave ovens, digital video disc players, computer monitors amongst others.

The NPA boss who made this clarification during the recent visit of the Minister of Transport Senator Idris Umar to Tin Can Island Container Terminal to ascertain the report in a Newspaper [Not National Daily] that a vessel loaded with two containers was on board a vessel at Tin Can Island with the intension to dump same in Nigeria.

Abdullahi told the Minister that the two containers have since been loaded back into the vessel.
