NPA set to install security device

AS part of efforts to create interface between port users the Nigerian Ports Authority has in conjunction with GDS a United States based firm concluded plans to install an Integrated Port Communication Information System in all our Airports.

Making this known in Lagos at a stakeholders forum organized by Nigerian Ports Authority to seek the input of key players in the maritime industry on the new plan the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority Mallam Habib Abdullahi said that the Authority has got approval from the Ministry of Transport to install the equipment.

He stated further that the Trade Facility Center will enhance efficiency, safety, security and profitability.

The consultant handling the project, GDS stated that information such as vessel schedule, vessel movement, vessel identification and cargo traffic can be accessed by stakeholders under a one stop shop.

He said that Singapore boasts of one of the world's best ports because information is shared promptly between stakeholders and each stakeholder utilizes the information relevant to its operations.

According to him the first phase of the equipment will be installed at Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports adding that the device does not conflict with the Single Window policy of the Nigerian Customs Service.
