It may soon become compulsory for intended couples to undergo an HIV test before marriage in Bauchi State.

A bill to this effect is now been tabled before members of the State House of Assembly.

It was sponsored by a member representing Lere / Bula State Constituency in the Assembly, Comrade Iliyasu Ibrahim Zwall,

Already, the bill, which has passed through first and second reading, has been referred to the House Committee on Health for further action.

Similarly, a bill for the merger of School of Agriculture with the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic has been referred to the House Committee on Education after  passing through first and second readings.

 

A Task Force to supervise the activities of miners, particularly, their effect on the environment, is underway in Ogun State.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the State Governor On Energy, Mr. Taiwo Fagbemi, in his office in Abeokuta during a meeting he held with representatives of the State Chapter of United Association of Gravel and Sand Dealers .

 

CHAIRMAN, Edo State Task Force on Demolition of Illegal Properties and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Major Lawrence Loye, has said that he had no regrets working with Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

He made the assertion during a luncheon organized for him by the Officers of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, in Benin City. Speaking at the occasion, he said, “I thank the Comrade Governor for considering me worthy of this position. Politics is deeper than people think; it is more than the surface the people look at.”

NIGERIA’S First Lady,  Dame  Patience Jonathan has urged women to defend the peace and national transformation of the country currently being threatened by violence and acts of terrorism. Speaking in Uyo, she said the central role of women in the family “justifies their need to remain in the frontline for the advocacy of peace.”

Dame Jonathan made the assertions during the 1st National Retreat on Women Development, Peace and National transformation on the theme, “Galvanizing, Empowering and Energizing Women as Change Agents for National Transformation, Peace and Development: A Win-Win Option.”

A nine member River Port Implementation Committee has been inaugurated for the proposed dredging of River Benue, in Benue State.

It was inaugurated just as Governor Gabriel Suswam affirmed that the contract for the dredging of the River had already been awarded.

He said members of the committee were carefully selected, with Sir Mike Jukwey, who has vast experiences in the shipping industry, as the Chairman.
