Is the ODL project really gaining momentum in the Africa continent?
Well, it is really a new initiative, it is considered a kind of second rate education and this is unfortunate. Therefore, I would believe that it is not gaining momentum especially in the relevant corridors of power, I just came back from a NUC [National University Commission] conference in Abuja where we were trying to facilitate a workshop there with the vice chancellors of universities to popularize the benefits and advantage people can derive from ODL.
It has been observed that NOUN is faced with leadership challenge, and it's not been embraced because of absolute discrimination of academic certificates?

The Federal Government has released N12.4 billion to 51 federal and state polytechnics for the purchase of laboratory equipment. This move has been applauded by the stake holders in the educational sector. The minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa'i said “all federal unity colleges have also received the equivalent of 250,000 Dollars each to rehabilitate their science and technical laboratories, as you will see from the Strategic Plan, Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) is a key area that we are targeting because of its importance in enhancing skills in youths and adults”. She also said additional N2.6 billion had been provided to the institutions for the rehabilitation of their laboratories.

OLUWASEUN Basit Ogunbona, born in Ebute-Metta, Lagos State on 22nd February, 1986. A recipient of several awards; this included and is not limited to Provost Prize (Medicine), College Prize (Medicine/Dentistry), College Prize, Vice-Chancellor's Prize, Scholars (First Class Academic Status) Award given to him by the College of Medicine and the University of Lagos at different times, as well as various others such as University of Lagos Student-Leader Award, Prestigious Award For Excellence, Award for Most Brilliant, Award for Most Outstanding Student conferred on him by different student associations. This medical scholar and leader is a member of various professional and non-governmental organizations including the American Physiological Society, HIV/AIDS Awareness and Research Team, Action Group on Adolescent Health (AGAH), Hamstrings Socio-Philanthropic Club and several others, too numerous to mention.

COMMUNITY Secondary School, Akwa Ibom State emerged winner in the eighth edition of the National Festival of School Science and Quiz. The annual science fair on an annual basis gives the participants opportunity to compete and interact with their peers at the national level and win scholarships and prizes. Hundreds of the best and brightest post primary pupils from about 40 schools across the country participate annually.

BLACKBERRY is set to empower 12 Nigerians in four University Campuses pan Nigeria, by signing them on as brand ambassadors for the mobile phone worldwide. They are currently searching for young people who speak 'Blackberry'; basically, young, well spoken, driven individuals, who can effectively represent the brand in their various universities and environs.
Applicants must be studying at universities of Abuja, University of Calabar, University of Lagos, university of Igbinedion or University of Portharcourt. Application Deadline is June 07, 2012, the company's website.
