Benue APC in disarray, as members defect to PDP

THIS is not the best of times for the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Benue State, as the defection fever that hit the party is yet to subside with more members moving to rival People's Democratic Party (PDP). With the recent defections of the top members of the party, it is facing a serious setback of which party sources say is giving the leadership sleepless nights.
It could be recalled that the APC just a year ago had more members than the PDP with many saying that the takeover of the state by APC is a matter of time, but with the fallouts from the recent congress in the State, the party is now a shadow of itself as its members have started making their ways back to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) due to so many grievances.
Most of the party members have complained of imposition of candidates and general lack of internal democracy in the party, making them to vote with their feet. It could be noted that during the party's congresses, accusations and counter accusations trailed the party resulting into series of petitions against the conduct by the party bigwigs. As things stand now, it is glaring that all is not well with the APC in Benue state.
The thinking of the APC Benue was that with the coming together of the three parties, Action Congress of Nigeria ACN; All Nigeria Peoples Party ANPP; Congress for Progressive Change CPC, among others, it will be easier to capture the forth coming 2015 general election in the state. The party wings may be broken as about 2,100 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Saturday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to Mr. Ndzeda Iho, former speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and Sen. (Prof) David Iornem, who led defectors, they were joining the PDP because it was an all-inclusive party. Sen. Iornem said that the entire structure of the APC in the senatorial district had been collapsed to enable the members join the PDP. He added that they were PDP members who went on sabbatical to APC.“APC is disorganized, running a one man show and playing the politics of exclusiveness,'' he said.
Receiving the defectors, the state PDP Chairman, Dr. Agbo Emmanuel described the defection of more than 2,100 people to the party as “historic, 'more so, when the event was happening prior the 2015 general election. He assured them of equal treatment like other members of the party.
