Plateau 2015:Controversies trail PDP State Chairman's declaration

THE Plateau State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Haruna Dabin, has been under intense pressure to step down since he indicated his intention to contest the 2015 governorship election in the state.
Dr. Dabin was the first governorship aspirant in Plateau to declare his intention to contest the governorship poll in a state while virtually all other potential aspirants are hiding in the dark watching the trend of power configuration before making their declarations. Dabin had acted on a prophetic revelation that he will rise to higher office, probably, succeed the incumbent governor.
The Chairman's new ambition has come under critical review in relation to his loyalty to the governor, his administration and the party.
National Daily gathered that a meeting of the working committee was summoned by the State Chairman, last week, and party members challenged him at the meeting over his intention to contest the 2015 governorship election. It was learnt that party members thereafter advised him to resign based on the fact that he cannot remain as the party chairman while aspiring to contest for governorship ticket of the party at the same time.
The angry members of the state working committee were said to have left the party Secretariat with a vow to reconvene soon to commence the process of replacing the Chairman if he fails to tender his resignation letter before then.
In a statement from the PDP Secretariat, it was debunked that there was never a decision by members asking the Chairman to resign. According to the statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, the party explained, "let it be stated clearly that the leadership of the Party did not at any point ask the Chairman, Dr. Haruna Dabin, to resign his position. What actually happened was that at the commencement of the Working Committee's meeting, a member challenged the Chairman who was presiding over the meeting to step aside having made known his intention to contest the 2015 governorship race. But Dr. Dabin said, there was nowhere in the Party's constitution that bars an Executive member of the party from contesting election or to quit if such member wants to contest any position. As the argument went on, Dr. Dabin stood his ground and the member then said, if Dr. Dabin would chair the meeting, he was not going to be part of the meeting and instantly walked out. Three others who backed him also walked out. The meeting, however, held as those who remained were in the majority and thereby went on with proceedings as usual".
National Daily gathered that the four members who left the meeting are members who are advocating that Governor Jonah's successor should come from Plateau North, Jang's own zone, and could not tolerate the ambition of Dabin who is from Plateau Central.
Meanwhile, Plateau people are beginning to question the essence of the three days state fasting, prayer and Prophecy held at the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) Headquarters, Jos, if the outcome that was witnessed by elders and youths of the stateĀ  is not implemented.
During the prayer and fasting sections, the prophet had warned that the Governor should stay out of the election process from the begging to the end. But the body language of Governor Jang seams not to be obeying this prophecy as stakeholders have noted that he has an anointed candidate from his zone.
