In this interview with LARA ADEJORO, the reelected Chairman of Lagos State Medical Guild, Dr. Olumuyiwa Odusote describes how the non- implementation of CONMESS (Consolidated Medical Salary Structure) has led to the resignation  of doctors from the service of Lagos state.

IT'S been months since the strike is called off, are you now satisfied with the terms with the government?

We cannot be satisfied because the reason why we went on strike has not yet been attended to by Lagos state government and to make things worse, the government has gone ahead to make policies meant to frustrate the doctors and as a result of that, a lot of doctors have left the service of Lagos. One of what they did was to ask us to be filling an assessment form every week of all the patients you've seen in the week. This is done to further frustrate doctors because they did not succeed in dismissing 788 doctors and converting us to locum doctors which was their aim.

ONE of Governor Akpabio's speeches in 2007 averred that Akwa Ibom would be transformed into a destination of choice. He further stated that just as bees are attracted to honey, people would be attracted to Akwa Ibom State. When he made these remarks, not much was available in terms of infrastructure or public utilities to give vent to what seemed like a mere wish. Today the story is different. Groups and organizations wait in long queues to have their annual general meetings, workshop, seminars, and retreats in the State. Akwa Ibom has become a beehive of activities attracting local, national and international bodies to a place that has rightly earned the sobriquet of the Gilgal of Nigeria; an apt parallel to the Biblical Gilgal when Prophet Samuel summoned the elders of ancient Israel to Gilgal to renew the kingdom and their covenant with God.

THEY were lying static on their hospital beds, wailing and groaning in agony resulting from excruciating pains, beckoning on the nurses who would definitely not bear the pains but would only administer the required dosage of drugs as at when due.

About a fortnight ago, the Lagos State government led by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola introduced and implemented fully the new Lagos state traffic regulations with a view to maintaining organization as well as ensuring safety of motorists and pedestrians along the major highways across the state.

FIRE more often than not performs useful functions for human existence. It becomes disastrous when the negative occurrence manifests. This was the case of residents of 14, Animotu Sadia Street, Unity Estate, Alagbole, Lagos State, recently, some of whom lost virtually all they have laboured to acquire in life before that day in the fire accident.

The unfortunate twist to the incident is that electricity which is significant to the well-being of the people was revealed to be the cause of the fire outbreak. The victims were left in memorable frustration that is still lingering in their memory.
