Jay Jay laments Super Eagles' dimal showing against Iran

Ex-Nigeria skipper Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has said the Super Eagles were poor in a goalless draw with Iran in a World Cup Group F match in Curitiba yesterday.

It was unlucky 13th match for Nigeria at Brazil 2014 as the African champions could not find a way past a packed Iran defence despite bossing the possession and creating more of the chances.

“We were poor, but we hope to get better as the tournament progresses,” lamented Okocha, who is also on the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“This was a must-win for Nigeria but we did not take it. We did not do enough in terms of our tactical play. Keshi did not do enough work on the team. The tactical play of Eagles was so bad, I hold Keshi responsible for this.

“Creative players would have made the difference against a team who defend in group like Iran and so for the coach to replace (Shola) Ameobi for (Victor) Moses was a wrong substitution. sOsaze (Odemwingie) was more creative when he came in, and we needed more in this game.”
